My name is Matthew Robert Wookey. I was born in San Francisco, lived in Fairfax until I was one, and grew up in San Rafael until I went away to college at the University of Oregon. After I graduated from Oregon with a degree in Anthropology, I worked at a department store for a couple of years before joining the Peace Corps. I spent 2 years in Georgetown, Guyana as a teacher of life skills education. Upon returning to the United States, I spent a season fighting wildfires with a company up in Oregon before returning to San Rafael. I started teaching at San Jose Middle School in Novato in 2004 and have been teaching US history to 8th graders there ever since. In 2009, I married Tatum Wilson whom I had met and fallen in love with in the Peace Corps. In 2012, our son Kaelum was born. 2015 was the year I decided to run for Congress.
